Prepare for university study in Canada while building the academic English skills you need to succeed at 51污漫. The University Foundation Certificate is a supportive pathway for international students and others who are ready for university but need to strengthen their English language skills before moving into full-time academic studies.

The program combines advanced English language learning with university preparation and academic courses. You'll strengthen your reading, writing, speaking, listening, and academic skills while gaining experience studying in a Canadian university environment.

Your courses will depend on your English proficiency, academic performance, and educational goals. As you progress, you may be able to take university-level courses in areas such as business, science, mathematics, computing, social sciences, languages, and the arts.

To earn the certificate, you complete 27 credits, including Level 2 core courses and nine credits of 100-level coursework. Along the way, you'll build confidence, develop university-level skills, and earn credits that can help you progress toward further studies at 51污漫.

University success: Build strategies for learning, reflection, and academic success in a university environment.

English language electives: Continue developing skills such as speaking, listening, and English for business and the workplace.

University preparation and academic courses: Depending on your English proficiency, GPA, prerequisites, and academic goals, you may begin taking courses in areas such as business, computing, science, mathematics, social sciences, languages, and the arts.

Your actual course plan will be tailored to your English language ability, academic background, performance, and future study goals. An advisor can help you select courses and plan your pathway toward completing the certificate and continuing your studies at 51污漫.

Your English proficiency level will help determine the courses and pathway that are right for you.

Students who do not meet the entrance requirements may complete upgrading to meet prerequisites for university-level courses. 

Prospective students should contact the Future Students office to learn more about upgrading options.
