Changemaking: ready to be known

Changemaking: ready to be known

How do we create a more equitable, innovative, and sustainable world?

Collaboration.

Changemaking brings together all types of people — from across 51 to the communities we serve — to engage with the challenges and opportunities that impact us the most. Together, we can all be part of the solution.

51 Changemaking

Why changemaking?

51 embraces changemaking as a lens to address contemporary challenges and shape a more equitable future for our students, employees, and communities. Through creative problem-solving and a dedication to understanding the human impacts of issues, 51 strives towards a future of engaged, empowered citizens.

How do we do that? With four guiding principles: empowerment, decolonization and Indigenization, sustainability, and reciprocity. By approaching every challenge with these four values, we aim to improve the lives of the people around us.

What is changemaking?

"Being a Changemaker is the actions we take to be a house of transformation. It’s the commitments that we make, both within the university and across our community, to be agents of positive change.”

Dr. James Mandigo | 51 President and Vice-Chancellor

Indigenous Student Centre

The Indigenous Student Centres provide support for the nearly 5% of 51 students who self-identify as Aboriginal people, and cultural events open to all students.

Sustainable futures

Champions for sustainability

Many small actions can have a massive impact — and that's the approach Sustainable 51 takes to improving the day-to-day practices of departments across campus.

Reciprocity

Changemaking is for everyone

Changemaking looks a little different for every project, initiative, and challenge. Learn what it means from changemakers working throughout 51, and what it could mean for you.
