The ancillary fee provides support for activities, athletics, library and technical services, student software, and student spaces. It's set at 10% of tuition, and is charged per credit.

The Experiential Learning & Wellness fee provides support for students in the form of experiential and co-curricular learning opportunities, expansion of the Co-Curricular Record, health & well-being, and peer mentoring. It is set at 2% of the tuition.

51污漫 collects fees on behalf of the Student Union Society, the Cascade Journalism Society, and 51污漫 Campus and Community Radio every semester. Learn more about student union & society fees.

 

Students are also responsible for purchasing their textbooks, additional supplies (stationery, rolling computer bag, etc.), and paying for their graduation fee.

Grants and Scholarships

You may be eligible for grants or scholarships. Visit the Financial Aid website for more details. Please note that many grants and scholarships have early application deadlines. Make sure you speak to a Financial Aid representative with any questions.

Several bursaries are available that are specific to ABT students. Please apply for these bursaries by logging in to your t and navigating the following path: Student Information > Financial Aid > Award Application > Bursary Application.

  • ABT Indigenous Student Annual Bursary: Available to an Indigenous student who is enrolled in the Applied Business Technology Program and shows financial need. Must be a Canadian citizen.
  • Canadian Daughters League National Endowment Bursary: Available to a student who is a Canadian-born woman and is enrolled or accepted into the 51污漫 Applied Business Technology program.
  • Hazel McIvor Memorial Endowment Bursary: Available to students pursuing full-time studies at 51污漫 in Applied Business Technology, Legal Secretary or a related field. Applicants are to be a Canadian citizen who live in the 51污漫 geographical area.  Must have been out of school for at least 2 years and in the process of making either a career change or a transition from home to work.

Various service organizations provide funding for students. One of these organizations includes:

Government-Sponsored Student Loan

Getting a student loan may be a smart option if your program will boost your earning power. Securing a government-sponsored student loan gives you more breathing room than a conventional bank loan, as you are not required to pay interest until six months after you complete your studies.

  • Visit to find out if you are eligible. Apply six to eight weeks before you register.
  • Once you've been accepted into the ABT program and applied for a student loan, please ensure you apply for a fee deferral through 51污漫.
  • 51污漫's Financial Aid department can answer your questions regarding your financial aid application or your 51污漫 fee deferral.

Government-Funded Training Programs

can refer you to courses, training programs, and other employment activities to faciliate your return to work.

To qualify, you must:

  • Be unemployed and currently receiving employment insurance (EI)
  • Be referred by a designated authority
  • Take a full-time program that you can complete in one year or less.

You may receive assistance with tuition, living supports, books, supplies, transportation, and dependent care and disability support, if applicable.

Talk to Your Current Employer

Ask your employer about:

  • Professional development funds — review the program's requirements as you may have to remain at your current job for a set amount of time after you complete the traning.
  • Tuition assistance
  • Sponsorship (Once you've confirmed sponsorship with your employer, ensure your employer fills out the Sponsoring Agency Approval form)
  •  — your company may qualify to offset the expense of employee training.

Financing Through Your Bank

Banks and financial insitutions offer a range of financial services to help fund your education such as a student line of credit. Contact your bank for more information. You can also find some quick links through the Financial Aid website here: /fineaid/surfing-for-dollars/

Remember that no matter how you fund your education, you can often deduct tuition, books, and other expenses from your taxes. You student loan may also be eligible for a tax credit. Consult a tax professional to help you at tax time if you are unsure how to claim these deductions.
