Canada–India AgTech & CleanTech Research Mobility Program 

Research Opportunities (Scholarships for Post‑Doctoral Fellows/ PhD Candidates/ Master's students)

Program: Canada–India AgTech & CleanTech Research Mobility Program

Position Types: (ongoing until filled) 

  1. Scholarships for Post‑Doctoral Fellows (full‑time) (up to 70,000 p.a. including benefits),
  2. Graduate Scholarships for Canadian PhD Candidates (up to 40,000 p.a. all inclusive), and
  3. Graduate Scholarships for Canadian Master’s students (up to 30,000 p.a. all inclusive)

All scholarship recipients will be affiliated with the Esposito Family Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (EFCIE) for this project.

Expected Start and Scholarship Duration: 15th August, 2026 – 31st March 2027 (flexible, with possibility of renewable for one more year until 31st March 2028) 

Initial Application Deadline: July 30, 2026 (ongoing until filled) 

Travel Duration: 1-2 weeks in India (based on performance and funding). 

ABOUT THE PROGRAM 

The Canada–India AgTech & CleanTech Research Mobility Program supports emerging Canadian scholars (Canadian citizens and permanent residents only) in applied research examining innovation ecosystems in agricultural technologies and clean technology sectors in India. The project is funded by Global Affairs Canada and delivered at EFCIE, 51. Postdocs are expected to work full-time in-person at EFCIE. Graduate Students are expected to work hybrid, meet weekly, and visit EFCIE (once a month as possible).

FOCUS AREA 

CleanTech: Cleantech innovation ecosystems, transportation, renewable energy, waste‑to‑value systems, water purification, circular economy, emissions reduction. 

Dz‑CܳٳپԲ: Tech adoption, climate resilience, policy analysis, community‑engaged research.

WHAT THE SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS 

  • Access to EFCIE facilities and faculty supervision for the duration of the scholarship.
  • Opportunity for fieldwork with partners and industry collaborators in India.
  • Round‑trip economy airfare to India, support for visa, accommodation, boarding, and travel within India for research (based on performance and funding).
  • 1–2 weeks travel in India for data collection (August 2026 – March 2027) (based on performance and funding).
  • Participation in Indo‑Pacific CleanTech networks and a Capstone Forum in 2028.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 

  • Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada only.
  • Master’s or PhD in relevant cognate fields (management, innovation, engineering, environmental science, computer science, etc.) from a university or equivalent research institution.
  • Ideally within five years of PhD completion (if applicable).
  • Willingness to travel to and conduct research in India between August 2026 – March 2027.
  • Demonstrated evidence of capacity for independent research and international engagement.

DELIVERABLES

Each scholarship recipient will develop an annual work plan in consultation with the PI (Dr. Jon Thomas or designate) and will be required to meet weekly for monitoring and completing agreed upon project deliverables.   

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 

Submit a single PDF including:

  1. CV (max. 5 pages),
  2. Research writing sample (preferably single authored),
  3. 2‑page proposal focused on Cleantech innovation ecosystems,
  4. 1-page statement of interest,
  5. Up to two letters of reference from current supervising professor/s or senior research collaborators,
  6. Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident status.
  7. Proof of degree completion or expected completion from a university or equivalent research institution.

EVALUATION CRITERIA 

Scholarly merit, relevance to CleanTech, feasibility, collaboration potential, contribution to Indo‑Pacific engagement, and EDI considerations.
