Teachers view parents, guardians, and families as partners in supporting children in BC K to 12 schools. We know that gender fluidity and sexual orientation are complex ideas and can intersect cultural and religious beliefs. We promote having teachers, school districts, and families talking and working together to understand each other’s points of view and figure out how to ensure all students feel safe and seen in BC classrooms
Resources in English
There are many resources that address SOGI-inclusive education in ways that parents/guardians/families can understand. Websites such as SOGI 123 and the BC School District sites provide brochures and pamphlets that help to answer questions and address the misinformation and disinformation around SOGI education. While these resources can not replace meeting and talking with your child’s own teachers, they may be a good place to start if you have questions.
