Active living programs

Active living programs are all about creating opportunities for everyone to stay active, whether you’re trying something brand new, returning to a favorite sport, or just looking to connect with others through movement.

Instructional & "Try it" programs

Join Campus Recreation and our sport-specific partners for fun and inclusive sessions in sport and active living. These sessions provide a great opportunity to learn and play. Programs offered:

  • Women’s Only and Gender Inclusive Drop-in Sports
  • Learn to Play Squash
  • Indoor Cricket
  • Badminton Tournament

Fitness classes

Campus recreation has a variety of heart-pumping and zen-building options that will leave you feeling happy and healthy. All instructors are certified and highly experienced and can help tailor classes to all fitness levels.

Classes are offered at both Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses.

Thrive Together 51

Thrive Together 51 is a peer-led wellness initiative designed to help students connect, move, and grow together. Whether you're new to fitness or looking for a consistent workout buddy, this program offers a supportive and inclusive space to build healthy habits and meaningful relationships.

What is Active Living?

Active Living programs offer a variety of structured, instructor-led sessions that promote health, learning, and community. These are not drop-in sessions—you’ll register in advance for single sessions or full program series.

Programs vary each semester and may include:

  • Latin dance
  • Learn to Play Squash
  • Kickboxing Self-defense Workshops
  • Fitness classes
  • Thrive Together Peer Program
  • Walking routes

Each class is led by trained instructors and designed to accommodate all skill and fitness levels.

Some programs are drop-in, while others require advance registration through the or in person at the Client Service Desk (E150).

Instructional “Try it” programs

  • Costs vary. Review each program to learn more about specific costs.

Fitness classes

  • 51 students, staff, and faculty: Drop-in sports are free for those with a valid Peak Pass membership. Peak Passes can be purchased at the Client Service Desk (E150).
  • Public participants: A $10.00 drop-in pass is available for purchase in person at the Client Service Desk (E150).

Eligibility

Active living programs are open to:

  • 51 students, staff, faculty, and alumni
  • Public participants (non-51) if:
    • Accompanied by a current 51 student or employee
    • Minimum age 17 (participants under 18 require a signed waiver from a legal guardian)

Are you new or returning to physical activity?

We welcome everyone to take part in our programs, which are open to all fitness levels. Physical activity offers many benefits for both physical and mental health, even small amounts can make a difference. While being active is safe for most people, we recommend checking with your doctor before starting a new routine or increasing your activity level.
