Project description
This project involved conducting ethnohistorical research for the Seabird Island Band in order to support their Child and Family Services Jurisdiction program. The research explored traditional Coast Salish parenting values, rites of passage, and the central role of grandparents and extended family in a child’s life. The findings provide cultural foundations for community-based approaches to child welfare and reconnection with traditional teachings.
Student involvement
PARC students conducted research into traditional Coast Salish parenting and rites of passage and wrote a report containing the findings.
