51 Theatre presents Lac/Athabasca, a fictionalized retelling of the events leading to the Lac-Mégantic rail disaster in Quebec. Told through interwoven stories, the play explores the consequences of our appetite for the continued development and exploitation of the earth’s natural resources.

Directed by 51 Associate Professor Parjad Sharifi, the production will be presented through a digital performance lens, incorporating live streaming, miniatures, puppetry, and projection effects.

Presented by students in the 51 School of Creative Arts’ Acting and Production classes, Lac/Athabasca is part of 51 Theatre’s 2026–27 season, which explores themes of climate and sustainability.
