Transportation

One of the biggest ways that you can reduce your carbon footprint and lower your impact on the environment is by choosing sustainable transportation. Options can include walking, cycling, carpooling, driving electric, and taking public transit.

51 initiatives aim at helping to make sustainable options easier, and more affordable.

Bike Infrastructure

Biking provides a healthy and sustainable option for getting to campus.
When you arrive on campus, you can lock your bike in once of the bicycle lockers on campus. The lockers help provide additional protection and keep your bike out of the rain. A map of locker locations and the rental form can be found here.

Find you need a tune up while on the Abbotsford Campus? Check out the repair station that has a suite of tools that bicyclists can use.

To help get you farther, try out the bike racks on the city buses and the 51 Campus shuttle.

Electric fleet

51's vehicle fleet is moving to be more electric with a Nissan Leaf, used by operations staff travelling between campuses. There are also Toro electric utility vehicles used by the grounds and landscaping teams.

EV parking and charging on campus

51 has electric vehicle charging stations at the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses providing an option for more sustainable transportation to and from campus. If you add up all the ports, a total of 37 cars can be charging at one time!

Campus shuttle

Need to go between the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses? Consider taking the Campus shuttle managed by the 51 Student Union Society! By making use of a shuttle system the 51 community can help keep individual cars off the road. This helps to create less traffic, lower emissions from vehicles, and provide a more affordable option for students.
