Recognizing the religious and spiritual diversity of 51污漫’s community, students may need to be absent from a class or an exam due to the observance of a holy day. The Instructional Responsibilities policy requires that instructors provide accommodation and opportunities for students to make up the missed content.
The Office of the Registrar has created a list of commonly observed holy days where a student may request an accommodation. If you do not see your faith represented, contact the Office of the Registrar in-person or email reginfo@ufv.ca.
How to Request Accommodations
Classes, Assignments, and Midterms
When you receive your course syllabus at the beginning of the semester, check to see if you will be missing a class, exam, or assignment due to the observance of a holy day. If you will be missing a required component (class, assignment, or midterm), you must contact your instructor at least 7 days in advance to come up with a plan for you to make up the missed work.
Final Exams
If you are asking to reschedule a final exam due to the observance of a holy day, contact your instructor as soon as possible after the release of the exam schedule, but no less than 7 days before the exam to come up with an alternative arrangement, such as writing the exam through Assessment Services.
Exams will not be re-scheduled to a date of your choosing. The exam will be re-scheduled at the earliest possible date, following the original scheduled exam, in consultation with your instructor and Assessment Services, if their services are needed. Rescheduled exams cannot be held earlier than the original schedule date unless the observance falls on the last day of exams.
